@pyrrhula oh for sure they eat them...and the squirrels go out there to eat them too. So many are fallen, the birds are loving it. There are a few on the tree still, eventually they will fall. Right now, I am still picking a few. They are really sweet, but have a worm now and then, so I have to cut them and inspect them before I want to eat them.
