We stayed with my husband's uncle in Oxnard. He is 83 and a bachelor. He lives in the same house he was was raised in. He always loves it when we come visit because I cook for him while we are there. And he talks our ears off. This is him with his friend Fran. They have been friends since before Fran's husband died years ago. He used to work with her husband and the three of them would have dinner together now and then. There is no other family living close to him. They were so good to keep him company. Then when her husband died, he made sure to be there for her and take care of her. She does not drive anymore, so he takes her to her appointments and they have lunch out every day. There has never been any romance, but a true deep friendship between them. I hope that I will be fortunate to have such a friendship in my latter years.
