A week or so ago, I commented on a photo that I needed a donkey around here to shoot for a project I am working on. Well, I put the word out on Facebook and found an awesome animal rescue place that has a donkey. It is really close to me and I was able to get the shot I needed.
My son is director at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders. They have methods to treat and cure Autism. Right now they are working on video type 'games' that the kids use. I have been asked to provide pictures to be used in the games. The kids are asked to pick between a few photos to find something that is the same, or different, etc, etc. I am really excited that they asked me to shoot for them and I will even get my name in the credits on the games! Here is a link to one that they already have been using. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/camp-discovery-objects/id585678823?mt=8
also a link to C.A.R.D. if you are interested in what they do. They are based in LA with other facilities around the US and a couple international. http://www.centerforautism.com/
Aww Vicki, What a gorgeous capture of this sweet Donkey....I am also so interested in your link, My daughter has Autism, and loves her computer games.....So i will check this site out! X
Thank you for the links, Vicki. It's great to be a part of this and to use your photography skills to help your son in his work. Very interesting. (I don't think autism can actually be 'cured'.)
Hey, you got the photo of a donkey. Love it. I will have to look back but do not see the email or notification that I should have received when you noted this at the top of comments. Not caught up with notifications so that may be why. How cool that you found this donkey close by. Love this photo, Vicky. Hope your son enjoys it as well. What a wonderful cause.
@annbo@sangwann@quietpurplehaze@yonnie@eyesmile It is pretty amazing the things my son tells me about the work they do there. I used the word 'cured' and maybe that was not the right word, since I am not in the field...maybe the word 'recovered' is better? I will find out from my son. I know that they actually hired a client or two once they are recovered and old enough to take on a job. From these recovered clients, they learn so much more in order to help the others. Video games are only one of the things they use in their treatment...If you go to the CARD website...click on SKILLS and you can see more about the treatment...and many insurance companies are even paying for it, since it has proven to really work.
I felt later that perhaps I should not have commented on 'cured' and I'm glad you took no offence. I think for conditions like autism, apserger's and bipolar disorder (which I have) it's a question of managing rather than curing. I mean I won't ever get rid of bipolar but medication and my own lifestyle management together mean I can keep well. And of course autism is not an 'illness' in the same way as bipolar. (Glad to get that off my chest!)

Congratulations on the honor of shooting for this worthy cause! That is very cool!
