Old railway bridge by wakelys

Old railway bridge

These are the footing for the old railways bridge. It fell into disrepair and in 1962. The bridge was closed because the timber swing bridge was too expensive to repair and no investment was being made as railway lines were being closed.
Now there is only a road bridge onto the Island where I live which can be a problem in the busy summer months as Hayling Island beaches are popular to many.
That's a sad tale, but a lovely capture! It's good that you're documenting this with photos. =)

Nice composition and shot. How fat is it to the mainland? People taking boats, with one bridge I can imagine traffic could be crazy.

@dutchothotmailcom the bridge is approx 300 Metres long. It can be a problem for emergency services when the traffic is heavy.

Interesting info. It's a shame the old bridge was never repaired. I can only imagine how jammed the road must get in the tourist months to get to and from the island.

It does look quite sad, but makes an interesting photo.

I've never understood why if a structure can't be repaired why it is left to fall apart.

Interesting! Maybe someone can paint a mural on the footings.
