Today was my sister-in-law's funeral. I really a wanted to take a picture of the casket with all of the roses on it but my daughter said that it wouldn't be appropriate. I wish I had, is that bad? The photographer coming out in me that wants to capture every image.
I did see this walking back to the car and found it rather sad. I am not sure who the person is but I do wonder if this was a child because of the stuffed animal.
I really understand you wanting to take a picture of the roses and document the day. It is just the way we are I guess. But the photo you did get is lovely and sad at the same time. I am very sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear about your sister-in-law - it sounds like a tough day. It's the timing of shots of caskets: when you're part of the mourners, having a camera out might not look as if you're not taking the funeral seriously. As a bystander it's not such an issue.
That little cross is sad too. I suspect the teddy means that it is a memorial for a child.
So sorry to hear of your loss Chris. I understand your need to photograph the moment and I'm sure your sister-in-law would understand, but the other people probably would not.
@shannejw Thank you. Yeah, it was a tough day. As they pulled the casket from the hearse I did snap a few photos - my wife asked me to take these so I feel okay about it. But in reviewing them I see this lady giving me, what looks like, a dirty look, however, it could be the sun in her eyes.
So sorry for your loss, Chris. I have taken photos of the flowers of an immediate relative's casket/funeral but after most had left. Picking out the flowers for our loved one was important to us and a part of who we all are so it was important for me to photograph. I may never look at the photos again but it was important for me and my family to have them.
