Starbright

January word - Hobby.
I enjoy looking at the stars on a clear night. I only have a pair of binoculars but it is amazing what can be seen. Winter is my favourite time and I love to look at Orion and its beautiful nebula which marks the Hunters sword hanging from its belt which is marked with three bright stars. Betelgeuse is the alpha star in Orion - a red super giant star that is unstable and fluctuates between300 and 400 times the suns diameter.
Wow - that's a lot of stuff to look for in the night sky - once it stops raining that is!

Lovely image and commentary, we are in the country with no light pollution, the amount of stars is mind blowing, I wish I knew what they all were. I can id the main well known ones, thats it :)

@bjdmum How lucky to have such amazing night skies I have always been intrigued by the stars and new nothing about them. About twenty years ago I bought a basic book by Patrick Moore and slowly started to pick them out and learn their names and positions with the seasons.

You've photographed an intriguing star to accompany your very interesting commentary. I too live in the country where there's little to no light pollution so the stars are often an amazing canopy overhead. But sadly, I've not taken the opportunity to become familiar with hovers above.

Thank you very much for the visit, comment and fav shared on my Mittens and Mug photo. :)
