All supplies to the Gulangsu Island are shipped from the main island of Xiamen. After that people would hire the transportation vehicle as shown in the above photo. It is interesting that such vehicles are officially licenced with a plate number.
A wonderful insight into daily life, I love photos like this that tell a bit about how things in other countries function. Maybe they licence the vehicles to keep control, in case of accidents or theft etc.
