The crape myrtle are in full bloom right now. I think this magenta-fuchsia color is my favorite but there are all kinds -- rose pink, pale pink, white, lavender. I think I even saw a red one. When I first moved to Virginia I thought these bushes were a special kind of lilac that bloomed in the summer. As with so many other things I turned out to be wrong. I've never really looked at one up close ... there's a lot of stuff going on in here. I especially like the round green buds.
