The flags were at half mast today after the shootings at the Navy Yard yesterday. Many people here work there or know someone who works there. Such a terrible tragedy. As part of my new bus duty position I have to help the four 5th grade patrols put up the flags every morning. For the first week or so I felt like we learned a new way to do it wrong every day. I thought we finally had it right this week until the music teacher called me over the walkie talkie this morning to tell me we were raising the flag the wrong way. She was watching from the bottom of the school driveway and radioed me just as I was trying to explain (without really explaining) why the flags were at half mast and trying to monitor kids in the crosswalk, making the whole operation extremely complicated. Doubly nice that everyone in the office listening on the walkies was now privy to us doing it wrong. Obviously I wasn't paying attention when they taught flag etiquette in Girl Scouts.
