I started reading "Junie B. Jones is a Beauty Shop Guy" to my second graders today. As I was reading, "There was a lady behind the counter. Her face had big, shiny red lips on it.", I was thinking what a great example that would be when we start talking about adjectives . . . until I showed the picture and the little Muslim girl in the front said "oh yeah, she's hot." Three other kids nodded.
