Gearing up to make a peach basket quilt. My friend Shannon owns the antique quilt on the bottom. It is adorable. All the peaches are appliquéd with blanket stitching. Normally I despise white backgrounds on my own quilts but I might have to give in this time.
You could do something traditional like the baskets with a twist. Maybe use the green for the background, or change the background for each basket block you make. I agree that the background should be less busy to make the delicate basket pop, but solid fun colors could add a surprise!
@laurielizard Oh I like the Idea of making the backgrounds green. Thank you for the ideas! I think I might make them different very pale blues. I have a mottled fabric that's pale blue and white that I love and I haven't found a place for yet and a bunch of pale blue ginghams. The original quilt only had baskets in every other square but I think I'll make mine in every square to minimize the background. So far I'm just staring at the fabric though. I have a quilt show coming up in a couple weeks and a quilt lecture to give. My snow day project will probably turn into a spring break project!
