surprise!

While my friend Shannon was showing me the lily of the valley in her yard, we both had the bejeebers scared out of us by this snake.

@studiouno It was the smallest black rat snake I've ever seen. Do you think it was a young one?

@margonaut I did not love it! (Pretty to look at, but glad it wasn't in my yard!)

@wiesnerbeth did it have a white throat/ belly? If not, then it may be something else!

@studiouno The belly was light-ish -- sort of a white-pale gray but I didn't get close enough to see the throat (haha). It was only about an inch and a half in diameter but it was about 3 feet long.

@studiouno Black rat snakes are common here, so it seems like that's what it was -- I've just never seen a little one!
