@margonaut Oh I like that you couldn't figure it out right away! They are library call numbers. Last year a friend challenged us to make a quilt to represent "A Year in My Life." We were supposed to make one block a week for the whole year. I was behind after the second week and I didn't love what I was making, so I sort of dropped out. But in December I had the idea to use my word for the year -- explore -- and represent all the places I explored or things I discovered as library call numbers (since I also spent the whole year in graduate school learning how to be a librarian). I'm still not sure how it will all come together. Right now there are 11 strips. I think I'm just going to line them up like a list -- in order of when they happened.
@margonaut I'm so glad you liked the book! I think that book is one of the reasons I became a quilter. I can still remember riding my bike to the library and finding it on the shelf ... I think I was about 11.
