out and about in chautauqua, new york

I worked in Chautauqua the summer I graduated from college. The Aldine was my rooming house. I lived on the top floor behind this tower room. The second and third floors were occupied by opera singers; those of us who were “worker bees” ( I worked in the book store; I don’t remember what my next door neighbor, Kevin, did, but it sometimes involved driving a truck and delivering things) lived in the top floor. Now the building’s been turned into (really expensive) condominiums.
gorgeous building. I'm wondering how many midnight arias you were treated to.

@margonaut The building was full of bats — we could hear them crawling in the walls all night long. I named mine Lucy,Ricky, Fred, and Ethel. My room was so tiny, but I loved it. One of my best experiences. As for the opera singers — they all went to bed early when they weren’t performing! They seemed very glamorous and didn’t really hang out with the chambermaid and me, although one of them borrowed my Glamour magazine once!
