As I got out of my car, after backing into this parking place, I heard the man in the car one space over calling me. “Miss,” he said. “I’m a former driving teacher and I’d like to compliment you on backing into your parking space. Most women cannot back into a parking space — they’re really terrible at it — but you did an excellent job on the first try.” (Actually from this angle I didn’t do such a great job — believe me, I can do better!) So I didn’t know if I should be outraged on behalf of my fellow female drivers or happy that he’d given me a compliment. I was sort of amused that he called me “Miss;” made me feel younger than I am.
I never do it! Not that I can't, believe me. Back up camera makes it simple. But I'd rather back out of the space into a clear drive than to thread my way between two vehicles. Plus you never know when someone is going to open a door into the space. It does seem to give men a thrill though.
