might have to rethink library pickup times

It doesn’t help that I’m reading a mystery series while I’m sitting out here in the dark.
"mysteries in the dark" could be a new offering! Do people have to call before they come? That's what we have to do.

@margonaut At the public library we have to make an appointment, but for school I just sit outside for an hour every Wednesday. The kids have until noon on Wednesday to put the books on hold and pickup is after the buses leave at 4:30. I’ve not been wildly successful in getting them to put the books on hold or pick them up.

@wiesnerbeth I'm so confused. Buses? Are they doing in-person classes now? And shouldn't they pick up before their bus leaves?

@margonaut Yes I can see why it’s confusing — so we are doing a phased-in hybrid program. Right now some of the kids in kindergarten and first grade are virtual and the others are divided into A and B groups. Group A comes into school on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Group B comes on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Mondays the kids learn asynchronously and teachers have planning meetings. Kids in 2nd to 5th grade are all virtual. At the beginning of January some of the 2nd and 3rd graders will come back and at the end of January some of the 4th and 5th graders will be back. The parents had the choice of staying virtual or coming back. So that’s why I have bus duty now. As if this schedule wasn’t crazy enough, in February we will start going to school 45 minutes LATER and we will have double bus runs — so in addition to A and B days, half of the kids will arrive at 9:45 and be dismissed at 4:25; a second group will arrive at 10:15 and be dismissed at 4:55. The in-person kids aren’t allowed to leave their classrooms except for lunch and recess so they can’t come to the library. And we aren’t allowed to give the in-person kids things that the virtual kids can’t get. That’s why we have curbside pickup. This is the nightmare that has become my life.

@margonaut I just reread my above comment and laughed at the absurdity of the whole thing.

Good Lord! I am in awe of teachers right now. Y'all are amazing!

@margonaut Well . . . I’ve started swearing a lot so don’t be too amazed by me.
