three good things

This summer I fell in love with Katherine Center's novels -- "Happiness for Beginners" is my current favorite (long story about how I shared this book with my friend and then she proceeded to tell me that she was "just like the main character," which incensed me just slightly -- ok more than slightly -- because the main character and the story were me and I wanted the whole thing for myself. Childish, I know.) Any-hoo. Her newsletter was the perfect anecdote for today -- Pachelbel's Cannon on rubber chickens is fantastic. I highly recommend her essay on reading for joy: https://katherinecenter.com/read-for-joy-2/
well heck, I'm going to have to look up those books. Didn't see the rubber chickens, but that link between fiction and memories is spot on!

I got a couple of her books from the library. Already finished the first one (What You Wish For) and I thought you were the main character in that one! I mean seriously, a school librarian and everything. Now reading Everyone Is Beautiful...

@margonaut What You Wish For is so good. I wish I was the kind of librarian she is! Happiness for Beginners is my favorite ā€” we are dying over my complete idiocy over here. I read both of them five days apart (loved both intensely!) and never realized they were related. You are more than welcome to laugh at my cluelessness! My friend is never going to let me forget it ā€” especially since I felt such a connection to the character Helen in Happiness. Iā€™m reading The Lost Husband now. Everyone is Beautiful is next on my list.
