@eudora One of my grandfathers said every year that we shouldn’t buy him anything for his birthday or Christmas because he wasn’t going to be around. My mom said he told her that after she and my dad got married — he was in his 40s at the time. Of course he lived longer than any of my grandparents. I just turned 65 this summer so I found this encouraging!
There is some truth in this. At least I've stopped worrying about what other people think, and that in itself is a sort of freedom. Plus, of course, the whole child-rearing-days-are-over thing.
