Murano is made up of seven small islands connected by bridges that are located in the northeast of Venice. Murano is famous worldwide for its ancient craft of glassmaking, and in particular for its famous glass chandeliers.
The origin of the Murano glass industry dates back to 1291 when the Doge of Venice banned the glass industry from the central islands of Venice because it was such a high fire hazard, and forced the glass makers to live on the Islands of Murano. To this day, Murano glassblowers have kept secret how they obtain the clearest glass or the purest cobalt blue.
