Windmill Island, Holland by yogiw

Windmill Island, Holland

As we traveled south from Traverse City making our way to Holland we visited our last three lighthouses and coincidently, all were red. The Grand Haven Lights were on the tip of a long pier we walked down as it started to rain. Our last lighthouse was Big Red, the most photographed lighthouse in Michigan. I was sad our lighthouse scavenger hunt had come to an end but now we could concentrate on other things.

We made it to Holland, Michigan only to find that Spring was in its full glory. Tulips filled Centennial Park in the center of town and Windmill Island Gardens, home to a 251-year old windmill, De Zwaan, the only authentic, working Dutch windmill in the United States.

We ended our tour of the coast and headed east into the state stopping in Grand Rapids at the Gerald R. Ford Museum for a NP stamp, through Lansing and onto Hell. Yep, we went to Hell, Michigan just so I could get photos in Hell. It was a fun side trip and worth the 20-mile detour on the way to Ann Arbor.

Cool information on the pretty windmill and beautiful tulips too! Great color and sounds like a fab place to visit if you cannot travel all the way to the other Holland!
