I guess we're as ready as we'll ever be for Brood X, the cicadas that emerge every 17 years. They will be upon us any day now.
They are predicting trillions of them sounding out to find a mate, lay eggs then die. They slit the tree bark on young branches to lay their eggs so we had to cover our little Red Bud in the front yard. It's too immature to take the trauma. I hope they don't make their way under the mesh.
