On The High Line

So, what is the High Line? The High Line is a public park built on a 1.45-mile-long elevated rail structure running from Gansevoort Street on Manhattan's West Side ending at The Whitney Museum at 34th Street. It was founded by neighborhood residents in 1999 to prevent the elevated rail track from being demolished.

We woke up early to take the subway at 8 a.m. so we could beat the heat to walk the High Line. The landscaping, the buildings, the murals and the art work all played a part in what makes this park so magical.

One of the many pieces we saw along the way was this one called "Curtain Call." Commissioned from artist Karon Davis, it'll be on view through November. The larger-than-life bowing ballerina is part of Davis’ newest series, "Beauty Must Suffer," which examines the life and labor of Black dancers in their tireless pursuit of flawless form within the historically European tradition of ballet.

If you find yourself in NYC, don't miss the High Line. It's a fabulous place. Actually, everything is fabulous in NYC. We'll have to go back.

Wow!❤️
