Nikau Palm by yorkshirekiwi

Nikau Palm

Nikau is NZ's only native plan. It grows to 20m and its slender trunk is banded with scars of fallen fronds. Branched flower heads emerge from the leaf sheaths, bearing small, pinkish-cream flowers that develop into bright red fruits. The fruit is mostly hard seed - so hard that early settlers used them for shooting birds when other ammo was scarce.
Here endeth today's lesson. Ha ha
