Cuppa Anyone?

I recently challenged a partner to recreate a favourite they had and you shouldn't give a challenge you wouldn't be prepared to try yourself. I was stumped for today's photo so here's a fav I've copied.
@bill_fe Hi Bill any advice for the second time I shoot over 75 shots to have a better one than this please??

Hi Jackie, You would want a wider aperture than the f/9.5. A longer shutter speed would help too.
I'm not familiar with your camera, but if it has manual mode, I would use a tripod, a low ISO, wide aperture and a long enough shutter speed to get an exposure a bit lighter than what you have here.
Good luck, keep me updated!

@bill_fe ooh, thank you so much. I tried on short and telephoto lenses, AV only and then macro. I was in my hall with the tripod cup and light were in dining room!!!
