If I hadn't looked up I wouldn't have noticed the signature of the maker; Hamo Thornycroft.

Alfred was King of Wessex from 871-899 and he was a notoriously bad baker of cakes!

Standing in The Broadway of my home city it's a much photographed statue however this brings a totally different view to it. Great picture.
