I picked up the French Knitting technique immediately, totally forgotten I knew how to do the braiding. My friend really copped ( got cross) and demanded she make pom-poms instead!! ( Thanks Katy for spotting toping orror!)
I like the photo of the hands working to make the cords. The vintage tool is interesting to see. I like the nail heads. I still have the little tool to do this somewhere in my craft stuff. I think it's easier to get one of those hand crank i-cord tools. Cheap enough and much faster.
Great capture. I used to love doing this as a child but never knew what to do with the it when I had finished of course nowadays we only have to look on Pinterest. You have an antique wooden cotton reel.
@dutchothotmailcom had miles of it, no idea what I made! @narayani the teacher had sourced a dozen wooden cotton reels and made these @happysnaps these ladies were really struggling @pyrrhula thanks Ferry, don't know why we call it French knitting @wakelys and make what?? @koalagardens my long term memory seems ok as I was only one to complete the cord, but have yet to make the flower brooch ( probably won't, just like in childhood just have a long bit of coloured wool!) @jacqbb it was fun and relaxing @denful thank you, unintentional, but glad it worked @wendyfrost I'll be popping there to see what to make as I don't have a Sindy doll anymore got her to have yet another scarf!!! @shutterbug49 love to say done on purpose..... @randystreat but not as relaxing!!
I loved doing this as a child. I bought a kit for one of my granddaughters but it was so hard to use that I even gave up on it . I should have just dug some old wooded cotton reels out.
I have seen this technique before but I am wondering what you use the braid for? Is there nothing you can’t do? Fantastic photo of your process
@joansmor me too!!!
