The crane comes twice a year to lift the boats out, and then six months later put them back into, the water. Tomorrow the big boats come out, with the big crane, but I'll be on bacon butty duties so will have little opportunity to take photos.
This little yacht was placed on her road trailer and driven round to spend the winter a few hundred yards away at the 'other sailing club'. We'll see her again in April 2023!
Thirty yachts were lifted out today! I asked a couple of skippers how much they're charged- about £700 for lifting out, winter storage and lifting back in again. As the sailing club provides the man, and woman, power to assist the professional crane operators and the dinghies make space for the yachts, costs are more than half than if using a marina.
Ellen, the main reason to lift out is insurance policies won't cover yachts being afloat during the winter months. Lift in next year is planned to be before insurance companies usually accept, so skippers are going to have to inform them and probably pay a bit more for a couple of weeks!!
@wakelys I remember when it was wet and cold to do stropping!!
