They can get frozen in the ice and dye. It has happened here. THat is why the town prohibits feeding them so they will leave when the weather gets cold.
@joansmor They were fine, not frozen in, I have never seen our river totally frozen across in all the years I have lived here! @paul10 They did look like they were a bit miserable Paul! @ludwigsdiana They were able to swim freely - the ice was just along the edge of the river bank @judithdeacon I did feel sorry for them!!
