My partner this week challenged me to portray "femininty". This felt like a real challenge - to go stereo-typical or to add my own challenge. So here it is with a little explanation for those who are interested!. According to psychologist Carl Jung, the ‘anima’ is the image of the woman in a man’s psyche, while the ‘animus’ is the image of a man in the psyche of a woman. If the consciousness is feminine, thought Jung, then the unconscious will be masculine, and vice versa. Complicated eh? However, I think the horse is a good symbol for this complex way of looking at ourselves as it has power, aggression, strength and stamina which are commonly thought of as “male” attributes but is also has beauty, grace and compassion which are equally commonly considered “female” attributes. So, does my image of a horse represent “femininity”? For me yes but I am open to other perspectives!
@shutterbug49 Yes, I am so aware of the perils of being stereotypical - but didnt realise I had brought that along to my photography too! @peadar Thanks! Every day's a school day eh? @randystreat Thanks Kathy, so pleased you feel it works for your challenge! @salza Thank you Sally, sometimes it's good to deviate from the expected norm! @30pics4jackiesdiamond Thank you Jackie, this one did have me thinking for a while! I try to avoid stereotyping as it is a path fraught with rocks, didnt realise this had followed me into my photography too!!
