Build Your Nest!

What else to do on a frigidly cold day than to build a cozy home. This squirrel scampered down to the base of the tree, grabbed a mouthful of dried leaves, and scampered back up (continuously) to build its nest.

I'm not sure if Wiarton Willie got it right. It turns out that other groundhogs in surrounding regions could not reach a consensus: an early spring or six more weeks of winter?

Today is winter with a capital "W," with temperatures of minus 30! Build your nest, little squirrel. You'll need it!
How wonderful. I do like those black squirrels

Given todays temperature, I’m hoping he already has a nest and this is just upping type insulation value. :)

@tinley23 We do have A LOT of them! They look like rats with tails to me, but I try not think that way :)

@gardencat Ha! I think that's the case :) There was certainly a significant nest already in place when I came on the scene.

Wow low temperatures for you. Lovely to see the busy squirrel and amazing how they survive the cold I expect that's what the big fluffy tail is for.

Wow Heather, that’s cold! I too hope this little chap was adding extra insulation to an existing nest. I do love your black squirrels, I think we have some over here but I’ve never seen one.
