In many parts of England an ornamental sign is erected on the main road into the village or another prominent position. The design often depicts a characteristic feature of the village or a scene from its history. Hurstpierpoint village sign is situated on the village green and features a knight believed to be Simon de Pierpoint who was given the surrounding land after the Battle of Hastings.

I deserve to be chased out of the village with pitchforks!
