Construction started in 1841
- 37 arches
- 11 million bricks
- 100 feet high
Considering there is a London to Brighton train roughly every 15 minutes the engineering is a testament to the Victorian engineers and builders.
I love this viaduct! When I lived in Redhill I often popped down there for photos. I often saw a barn owl in the evening. Once there was a bride and groom having their wedding photos taken with the viaduct as a backdrop. Lovely memories!

I expect a steam train would have looked phenomenal on top of this amzing structure! I hadn't even thought of that :)
The Bluebell Railway isn't too far away and still runs steam locomotives - its on my very long list of things I really should get round to photographing!

It is pretty amazing considering its age although it is a little hair-rising to stand directly under the arches as an express train thunders overhead!

This would make a lovely backdrop for wedding photos - what a great idea!
I'll have to keep an eye out for the owl when I next go back.
Made for a camera to be pointed at it!

You are too kind!
But thank you very much :)
The closer you get, the more impressive it appears.
I took so many shots I will probably post some more today :)
Thank you so much!
