Weta NZ native is related to grasshoppers, locusts, crickets, they have powerful hind legs for jumping , communicate by rubbing hind legs on the sides if their bodies making a chirpy sound, it take 1 to 2 yrs to become fully grown length is 4-6 cm
Or the Giant length up to 7.5 cms
There is a tree weta , ground weta winged weta ,
They can bite but not poisonous
