Heirloom by Weezilou

Heirloom

Cherished
small vessel
of time past
but a memory

Grandmother poured
from this lip, lineage;
affected by years
pale memory.

Saved for one
into the future;
from the history,
your memory.

Mrs. Smith's class assignment in the style of William Carlos Williams due Monday, April 19

This creamer and sugar bowl belonged to my father's mother, and today, my father http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-04-02 would have turned 97. Thinking of my own lineage today.
It's lovely!! I love thinking about my lineage.. I like that you have stuff from the past. (I'm first again, yay) Class assignment?
April 19th, 2010
Mrs Smith "our English teacher" challenged us to take part in her class assignment http://365project.org/mrssmith/365/2010-04-15
I did mine in the early morning hours when my fingers don't cooperate to type and my head was still in a "day-dreamy" state...
April 19th, 2010
Nice shot, lovely heirloom and you're a poet. All this and coffee, too.
April 19th, 2010
That is so fun! Everyone on here is so cute!
April 19th, 2010
how i love the pink table cloth, one that i would use on my coffee table! while on the way to pick up my daughter from school, i had this little worry creeping in me that we might not hear from you for a while during the summer vacation!
April 19th, 2010
How lovely. I have some treasured heirlooms too. Having things like these help us to connect to our past. Thanks for your comments Louise.
April 19th, 2010
Luster & Everyone...It's not so much a "vacation" as moving to anothe home for the summer months. I'll have my computer & will definitely keep in touch! (I make so many comments now on pictures I see, I just don't want anyone to think I don't like a photo if I don't have as much time to write this summer.) But I'll "visit" and enjoy as much as time permits! I'd miss you all too much if I had to do without!
April 19th, 2010
I have a bit of a fetish for jugs. Cannot resist buying them. This is pretty. The flower on it I remember from my mother's garden.
April 19th, 2010
Wow! this is sooo good!
April 19th, 2010
mmmmm..... I love tea. I think I'll go make a cup. What kind do you drink?
April 19th, 2010
That's so lovely. Fuchsia is one of my favourite shrubs (and I know what I'm going to photograph today!). Love the diagonal line in this shot, the damask, the movement....the whole thing "works" for me. And it works especially because of the history and memories that make the accompanying poem so beautiful. Thank you.
April 19th, 2010
PS - I too have a jug fetish - maybe that's not quite the right work! Passion....
April 19th, 2010
I love the way you have caught the milk disturbing the coffee. Great shot.
April 19th, 2010
Wonderful words and photo.
April 19th, 2010
There's such a warm fuzzy feeling to this shot, then reading your caption makes it that much more cozy. Recently diving into my own lineage, this makes me want to purchase a "good" tea set for my future warm fuzzies! :D
April 19th, 2010
Beautiful heirlom. I've always loved heirlooms because of the nostalgic feeling of them.
April 19th, 2010
All the parts of your assignment work so well together -- the arrangement, the lovely design of the tablecloth against the shapes of the china, the stream of cream pouring into the coffee with the reflection tying them together. And of course the poem bringing everything to life. A+ for you!
April 19th, 2010
Oh, how very beautiful and meaningful, Louise. I love your heirlooms ... and this poem is wonderful. The fact that you wrote it makes it even more beautiful. I think that Mrs. Smith will give you an A+ for your assignment. Happy 97th birthday to your Dad.
April 19th, 2010
I love this shot and the sentiment with it. It gave me a warm fuzzy on a Monday morning.
April 19th, 2010
We're having coffee together again, my friend!

beautiful shot, beautiful poem. love the colors and composition, Louise!

Are these things you use every day or did you get them out especially for us? *big hug* on this Monday morning!
April 19th, 2010
an absolute beautiful creamer and sugar bowl. wish i had some things inherited from my parents. the only keepsake i have is a recipe my mom send over to me when i once lived in Chicago. it is so old and faded by now but i will never discard it. your poem is so heart warming and fits perfectly with the picture reminding you of all the memories you have of your grandmother.
April 19th, 2010
Oh so could do with a cuppa right about now -looks delish :)
April 19th, 2010
So delicate, poem with image!
April 19th, 2010
And the milk never stopped! Great "mid way" shot. It seems to be the months of memories. My father would have turned 100 on April 9th.
April 19th, 2010
How beautiful!!! Amazing poem, wonderful image!!! I love it!!
April 19th, 2010
Very lovely....I have a thing for dinnerware and glassware, too. I love the delicate pattern of the tablecloth it's on too. Thank you for your comments on my photo...I always like getting your comments!

April 19th, 2010
I am looking at this photo and sensing a new theme in the making: Heirlooms! That could be a lot of fun and interesting too! Beautifully shot!
April 19th, 2010
Beautiful! Love your words and what your photo represents. Wonderful shot!!
April 19th, 2010
This is lovely, including the words that go with the image. A lovely shot!
April 19th, 2010
I think Mrs. Smith will be proud! Well done!
April 19th, 2010
Thank you all :-)
April 19th, 2010
oh this is such a wonder shot and the words to go with it is perfect too. can't wait to meet you in person! :))
April 19th, 2010
Very nice. I really like the use of repetition in your poem. It's so effective as it does evoke the idea that you are reflecting and remembering today. I would have understood that without your explanation. I love it. A+ and a sticker! And thank you so much for doing this assignment....! I'm so impressed with your work and everyone's work. It's kind of fun to see the words and the images and how they all fit together.
April 19th, 2010
Thank you Mrs Smith! (heart pounding and knees shakey, I return to my desk...)
April 19th, 2010
Thanks for your comments on hoya and rubber band. Have found myself mentally writing poetry all day! It was a fun challenge and look forward to what Mrs S will come up with next time!

April 19th, 2010
Love the whimsy of it all weezi!
April 19th, 2010
i was wonderin' about this assignment that i might have missed, till i checked out and then followed Mrs Smith! i had to come back again and looked at the photo just a bit longer and i found something very dramatic about how delicately you poured milk from such a heirloom...and the lovely poem aptly describes its value to you and the family. oh, what a wonderful project i missed!
April 19th, 2010
I love your poem Louise :) Along with the pictures...it looks soo good!
April 19th, 2010
So good, I'd love to have a cup with you!
April 19th, 2010

April 19th, 2010
there really is nothing quite like vintage china....especially if it's a family treasure...
and what a beautiful job on that poem..
April 19th, 2010
Hope that's tea... but suspect it's coffee....:-)
April 19th, 2010

April 19th, 2010
I love this shot!! Great capture!
April 19th, 2010
You've definately captured the vintage feel, table cloth and all. But knowing the story behind the creamer and sugar makes it more special.
April 20th, 2010
I have to confess to all of you who commented on the
vintage" table cloth in the picture...it was from Linens n Things...but I use it all the time...I think it was in the picture when Ken and I were "Playing Nice"...

Thanks for all the nice comments today; I loved sharing with you all!
April 20th, 2010
YOU are a poet! And...nice nails too. And, yes...the laptop poem came to mr by way of a real accident. sniff sniff.....

I realize I'm a little late in commenting, but I've been back and forth the past week seeing to my mother-in-law who is having a bout with her heart rate being to high. I love the pitcher and creamer Louise. What lovely memories it must bring to mind. This shot is so crip and clear it looks like we could reach into the picture and help ourselves to a cup!
