Attending this amazing pageant in Halifax is one of my favorite events of the year! It's rousing and uplifting and moving and patriotic...just fabulous! We always try to go on July 4th as they play the Star Spangled Banner as well as Oh! Canada and it's a nice way to celebrate our two homes. This is just a tiny glimpse of the gala! I took a lot of videos this year that I uploaded to youtube and here's the Finale. I don't expect anyone might watch it all, but catch the flavor of it that I love! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2NlSmAAP4E&list=UUGxqym6Iw-IaQUWHGwwvRtQ&index=9&feature=plpp_video There were representative groups from France (The Paris Police Gymnastics team), Germany (Army Band), the USA (Marine Band), Switzerland (Swiss Army Band), Estonia (Dancers & Gymnasts), Canada, of course (think Royal Mounted Police and Bagpipers), England (The Queen's Colour Squadron of the Royal Air Force) and...I'm sure there was one more country represented, but I can't think of it. You get the idea, though!
It's a Spectacular! Did I mention over 1000 people take part in putting this on? And after the finale, a lot of groups come out onto the floor and anyone can come down for a meet and greet. If you want to do something memorable when you visit Nova Scotia, come between July 1-8 and treat yourself to this show...you'll never forget it!
......................A note to my friends and followers......you have no idea how busy we've been up here! I've fallen behind in posting pictures and I haven't had a chance to look at pictures, much less, leave comments. I suggested to Ken tonight that we spend a weekend at a hotel in Halifax and get some rest! We need a vacation!
@chard I was a bit amazed myself...I was just hand-holding that camera so I could keep an eye on both the show and the image on the back of the camera...thanks for the thumbs-up!
Great camera work! Very stirring, even for a Yank. I especially loved to old film of the Royals. You really did a fabulous job of capturing the different areas and levels of the program (or should I say "programme"?)
Oh Louise you made my day..I'm sitting here listening to the German Army Band from Hanover..such great musicians.. and I saw your fabulous video via your link. thanks so much for sharing..no wonder you guys like to celebrate the 4th of July there. Alte Kameraden auf See - old comrades was one of my favorites. I love sailor songs.
@bruni You made my day!!! I hadn't thought about how much you'd love all that! The German band always comes to Lunenburg for an afternoon while they're visiting Halifax. I go early and sit right up front; what a treat! Thanks for liking my videos...it was fun putting them up and listening to them again!
