Keith and Karen Mackenzie http://365project.org/kmackenzie/365 let us know they were going to be in Lunenburg and we were delighted to have them come for a barbecue dinner tonight! What a nice couple! From our comment exchanges over the past 18 months I knew we'd enjoy their company, and there was never a lull in the conversation! Just before they arrived, the doorbell rang, and we were truly delighted to see a dear friend who was in our neighborhood from St John, New Brunswick! It's the Maritime way to call in if you're passing through, so what fun to have old and new friends to introduce!
As Keith was originally from Nova Scotia (now living in Peoria, Illinois) I put together a dinner menu with as many local foods as I could think of. We had a cheese plate with cheese and some crackers from the Farmer's Market, bacon wrapped scallops from down at the dock a day ago, grilled salmon & fresh shelled peas (and rice). Dessert was a blueberry (we pick our own every summer) cake http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2010-08-30 with ice cream and after dinner drinks, blueberry liquor, from our own Lunenburg Ironworks. (I have to say thank you to Ken again for being our dinner chef; he prepared and grilled it all!) (Thanks, too, to Billy for the floral bouquet!) We talked until the sun was long gone before saying good-night, and they walked back through town to their hotel. If we don't see them again tomorrow, we're planning to visit the next time we're in Chicago. It's amazing, the bonds that are built on this site! Who's coming up here next?
Wow, what a welcome you prepare Louise. I am surprised you do not have a Bed & Breakfast. I do believe you and Ken would make a great host and hostess.
Oh, what a wonderful get together!! 365 rocks! :) Dinner sounds like it was absolutely delicious! And what fun having the opportunity to build a friendship. I'll certainly let you know if Tom and I are ever up your way! :)
@hollandcrew I've yet to meet someone through 365 that I haven't enjoyed immensely. Keith and Karen were the 5th couple we've met up here via this site! Amazing, isn't it?
Isn't the internet a wonderful place? Just when businesses thought it was going to all about exchanging their ideas; somebody thought it would be a great idea to start being friends with others across the globe... and see, it's made us a little closer, a little more friendly and made our own communities a lot more fun! :D
What a wonderful shot of you & your 365 friends Louise.
You never know, as I have said, you may see us one day too.
Nova Scotia & Lunenburg, are such wonderful places, & I have read quite a bit about that area.
It is truly wonderful how friendships bloom across the miles.
Your dinner menu made my mouth water. :)
What a fun evening it was for you all.
And it is people like you Lousie who make this site so special :) I would love to come to Lunenburg one day and see your beautiful city and to meet you and Ken - maybe one day... ;)
@lily Thanks for the thoughtful and kind words Laerke...it's really the fabric of this community that makes it a special place. I know you travel a lot, so if you and your boyfriend should drop in here someday, just give me some advanced warning...you'd be a very welcome guest! All I'd ask in return is for you to take one of your beautiful photos of our home! Deal?
