Long ago I should have started the 100 Strangers project... I'm not so good at getting the photo, but I seldom leave without the story...
I saw this just a minute before we arrived for "Sunday Morning Breakfast Club" with friends & noted that I had to return afterward for a photo. When we did, there was a couple & their dog out front cleaning up the debris from yesterday's hurricane. We puilled into their drive & asked if I might take some photos & they were enthusiastic that I wished to! In brief, they're from nearby Mahone Bay, but were only back a year from a 10-year stay in Phoenix, Arizona where he applied for and received US citizenship. This lovely old barn is on their property & they told us much of the history of the parcel of land (including an Indian massacre in the earliest days before building a "Blockhouse", for which this community is named.) John offered to move a block from under the flag, holding the door shut, and closed the doors to the right to tidy it up. He and his wife Kim were a delight to talk to, and showed us the beautiful view from the back of their house. They'd like to turn the barn into a tea room someday... I'd certainly look forward to returning!
I'll drop off a copy of the photo...a reminder that their American neighbours take great pleasure in seeing Old Glory on a 4th of July weekend!
@rangerxenos Thanks, Dawn! I sometimes wonder if people really want to take the time to read the story behind the photo, so thank you...I love sharing that!
I LOVE the lighting in this. It's soft and muted. Love the multiple textures. How wonderful that John offered to tidy things before taking the shot! :)
A tea room would be so much fun there - I hope they do it. Such a great idea - Sunday Morning Breakfast Club !! Do you get to meet up every Sunday?
Lovely shot btw - warm, rustic, and fantastic texture.
I am going to discuss a visit to your neck of the world this week with my hubby. Count us in on a visit - let me see what our schedule looks like and I'll pop on in again soon.
@moonshinegoober Who knows who came up with the name...and I don't know how long the folks have been getting together... I'm no great fan of breakfast, much less a large one, but the company is a delight! There are the "regulars" and friends & family who drop in once in awhile...6 of us today...10 last week... Believe me, it's NOTHING fancy! But it's consistent! Oh...the average age is about 80 (with a couple of 89 y-o's at that end of the curve!) What a hoot! So NOT California!
Beautiful against the rustic barn. You are able to get the best stories and I love how you have such a curiosity for people and the area. You are my kinderd spirit!
@seattle That you think of me as a kindred spirit...I can't think of a nicer compliment, Constance! On that note I'll call it a night...happy for the kind words! (Just spoke with my daughter -12:30 AM- & they've finally arrived in Halifax! We'll pick them up in the morning and our "4th of July Vacation" together can begin at last!)
Beautiful shot.....love the processing....and, the story!! One of my dreams was to own a barn someday, and convert it to a residence and office! It might still happen, even though I am not so sure right now after this recent renovation!!
That`s often also happen to me to. Taken pic.`s of the farmland and getting great nice stories of the owner. ( Love it )
Beautiful find and capture of this nice barn.
