Archaeological Dig

For all the work done to the back of the house, I didn't have (many) pictures that would be of interest but for recording the progress here. Rick removed about 5 layers of boards/exterior walls that were built up through the years as doors must have been put in and removed, stairs added, etc. When these boards, full of lovely old nails were removed, I had Ken pull them all. Later I regretted that I didn't leave some intact as I thought they had interest of their own...
Cool!!

Funny how rusty nails in wood are mostly garbage but in a photo they look cool! We've found some old nails that were square with a flat top, we actually kept them.

@aglennc If not on here, I will send you some...we love the way it's all coming along|!
@jrambo001 I have one image with just one nail...thought about using it...I have a friend who loves it...might post it later to share with you. @dailypix Those nails would have been forged by a blacksmith, I believe...and if it's not true...I want to believe it anyway! They have artistic possibilities!
@pyrrhula "Minimal" would have been the one I was telling John about... now I really do need to post it...

Gee, they're old hand-made nails Louise. Must be awfully old.

In remodeling our older country home, many a square nail was found in the dismantling of walls. Holding one feels like touching the past, doesn't it? I once found a very long one on the ground near a mountain top mining camp and felt like I was really going back in time with that one in my hand. Good luck with your project.
