Deja Vu all over again :) by Weezilou

Deja Vu all over again :)

When the trees across the back of our yard were trimmed a month ago, I wouldn't let the workmen go near "the hummingbird habitat" where I annually find a little homebody raising a family. From the outset I would find her flying around this area, and today Ken spotted her nest. She must be planning for quintuplets from the size of the nursery! We won't bother her just now, but will watch for when she has babies to feed. We'll wait for her to go gathering food and get some pictures of the new arrivals!
Wow, how awesome. I never knew what a hummingbird nest looked like till now. Thanks for sharing. :)

They are so CUTE. We had a hummingbird nest with babies last season..... on our front porch. I posted a photo or two of them. We've been sorry we haven't had a repeat this year. This is precious. (Check out Ron's similar shot within the past day or two.)

I love, love, love this! (a fav) And you and Ken are such good landlords. Can't wait to see the babies!

@anne15 Thanks, Anne! I'm delighted I could share! The nest is really pristine, having just been built. Quite an impressive job for such a tiny bird!

Here she was last year at almost the same time http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-02-27 ...later with the growing babies http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-03-31 and just minutes before the first one flew the nest http://365project.org/Weezilou/365/2014-04-03. Perhaps others will also enjoy seeing what we'll look forward to again!

@aglennc @allie912 Wow you two were quick! I was writing a note for Anne who had never seen a hummingbird nest, and I posted last year's photos. Thanks for the fave and look forward with me to what's to come! (I also see that a year ago Frosty was a mommy, so wondering what's happening in her life this year!)

Oh, my, what a wonderful find!!!! I have hummingbirds now fluttering around the orange flowers outside my kitchen window, but so far I have not been able to capture them this year. And, I have NEVER seen one of their nests, so I am grateful to you for posting this! I will be on the lookout for one should they decide to nest in our yard, but I suspect they go to bigger trees in the neighborhood. This is wonderful, and I am looking forward to photos of the babies!!

What a wonderful thing to have in your garden! I was only watching an article about hummingbirds last night...amazing birds! and I've never seen one! We have some nest building going on here too in chilly UK but nothing quite so exotic!

A magnificent capture.
February 16th, 2015
that's quite the architectural feat. I peaked at last year's babies. With such a tall test nest, one can imagine them stacked up like pancakes.
February 16th, 2015
Almost lost him there in the green. Pretty.
February 16th, 2015
How adorable! I'm amazed at that nest! Quite an engineering feat for a little fluttery thing...
February 16th, 2015
@hbdaly You actually make a good point... Because she's "a little fluttery thing", if we spend an hour in the yard, we can easily see her flying back and forth across the backdrop of trees in the yard. When she returns again and again to the same spot, we know where to go start looking! That said, she's quite camouflaged, up and into the foliage, and we'll keep her address secret!

@francoise Ron has a nest on his front porch! Check out his babies http://365project.org/stray_shooter/photo-a-day-15

How lovely it most be to have this in you garden. I /we have every year some bird nestings to but not humming birds.
February 16th, 2015
What a delightful find! I can't remember the last time that I saw a Hummer - they're so fast.
February 16th, 2015
How neat that you were actually able to see the nest. We have lots of hummingbirds but I have never seen their nest.

Yours is much bigger than mine! And a better photo too! Can't wait to get home to see how my front porch family has grown.

So lovely Louise. How special to have them build a nest so close to you. My sister in law has the same pleasure two years in a row.
