My First Lesson in Textures by Weezilou

My First Lesson in Textures

I know the addition of textures to photography is currently quite popular, so it's partly that and partly my art background and the desire to achieve something akin to this with my hands that makes me love it so much. I've been using OnOne Photo Effects and the built in texture choices for about a year, but tonight I decided to try to learn to build my own combinations with a Photoshop Tutorial. I found this one to be advanced, but I could follow the steps, and it seemed to achieve what I wanted in the most satisfactory way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54hEQ62wHSw One of the things the instructor said was that there's no real way to know in advance how the final piece will turn out, but he did liken it to a box of chocolates, and I've never had a chocolate I didn't like!

This is beautiful Louise, and I do like the way you have maintained the rose in its original form. Nice work!

Very interesting. I'm not savvy enough for all the "extras" that go into basic photo changing/altering. Wish I knew more, but......

I'm liking it, I'm FAVing it, and I want to come back to it and try that tutorial....thanks for the link! I am very impressed at how well this turned out....I think it is the first photo with a texture overlay that I really liked! :-))

@aglennc @salza @lindasees Thank you all! I'm usually not patient enough with tutorials, but I *really* wanted to try this! Next step is to photograph some textures an text I'd like to use! @panthora Thanks, Osia...I think you might get hooked on these, though I'm not sure a sunset really needs anything more added to it... I added the link because I thought it had enough going for it that others might want to give it a try. (A previous one I tried I was not as satisfied with...and this instructor actually said the fist technique was not a terribly satisfactory one...so there you have it!)

@pamknowler Pick out a photo you'd like to alter and one or two textures. He'll walk you right through it and you can toggle back and forth... Show us your successes!

Very successful texture shot and I love the rose. This year I just want to make sure I post a photo a day with a few simple techniques like cropping! I admire all you processors
