@pyrrhula Oh thank you Ferry! I asked Ken to get another photo this morning, and he came away with the empty nest! I certainly now have a record of how long it takes! And the photos are all of Ken's making as I couldn't get up there this time around! Like everyone here, I'm a "photo onlooker" too!
@Weezilou So most of the credits goes to Ken. Give him my compliments. but I guest you did the collage , it`s halve a halve. Are you health improving ?
@pyrrhula Thank you Ferry... yes...I made the collage... My foot is healing well and I'm up walking often, though my balance is still not so good! (One might think I've been drinking too much! haha!) Thanks for asking :)
@allie912 As I saw "Two hummers" race past the window, I'm guessing someone has ideas about how she might spend her time! Personally, I'd think it was time to take up photography!!!
Oh my!!!!!!!!!! How blessed you are to have found and recorded the birth and life of a baby hummingbird!!! As many hummingbirds that I have had here, I have never found a nest! I would be in heaven if I did!!! This is just the most awesome collage. I would have to frame this for sure!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! FAV!
@pinktornado39 Always so nice to see you Laura! Just looked to see if you'd added some new photos and I was happy to see gorgeous Rocco still there! Thanks for coming by!
@sitiodown@gilbertwood@joemuli Thank you all! Each time Ken took another photo, I thought I'd post it, but none were all that exceptional. As a line of progression, they seemed to work, and an image we'll enjoy remembering! (We're wondering if she's through for the season!)
@cashew 100 hummingbirds and no nest to be found?! I suppose because I only have a couple of them, and they stay in the confines of our yard for the most part, I can watch them easily, and will always notice where one heads into the tree. Even knowing where the nest should be, they're hard to find...so little and they blend in well! The best nest we ever had was at eye level just outside the kitchen window! I wish she'd build there again! Thanks, Kathy...it's fun to swap stories with you about these sweet birds!
@aglennc@overalvandaan@redy4et@kerristephens Thank you all! I think people have shown interest in seeing the babies, so this seemed the best way to show this year's 3rd launch of Baby #5 (an only child).
@cashew One more thing...just noticed I'm the only one who's used the tag "hummingbird babies" so I have several nests pictures there. I thought you might be interested.
@Weezilou I so envy you to have so many photos of the hummingbird babies!!! The ones I have come in from everywhere!!! A lot will be in one of our cedar trees but never found a nest!! I will keep looking though!! I know if I ever find one there will be hundreds of photos on 365!! LOL All your photos are soooooooo awesome!!!
@cashew You make me smile from ear to ear with your enthusiasm! I wish I could share them with you somehow! Ceder trees are pretty dense...it would be hard to find a nest in one! My best vantage point was when the nest was in an Aralia tree...not tight foliage. I was all over that nest! In the thick fichus trees now, we cause a rustling getting to the nest. Hence "Mama? Is that you?" because the baby would pop his head us thinking mom was approaching! We didn't want to spend too much time there and concern the mother, but it was sweet to have a look! Funny, too, we've just finished a redo on our entire back yard. Anyone new coming into the yard had to be told to not bump a branch by the nesting area. Of course they all had a look and took out their cell phones for photos, but afterward, they were very respectful! It went well.... Thanks for your enthusiasm and letting me share mine! (Are you a night owl as well? I love spending a late evening here!)
it's kind of depressing in a way, isn't it? it happened to us two autumns ago with the swans had left. first the mother and two female grown up cygnets, then the father and the third female cygnet. partner was almost in tears when he found the last cygnet, a male still in the pond, looking forlornly about. then the next day when he came back the next morning the ducks had the pond for themselves. we know it's the circle of life, yet still depressing.
@summerfield (much as I feel about Frosty, who has yet to return...) Re: the nest, I was amazed to find it filled three times since we came home in December! I won't let Ken trim the trees around it as she may use it again! I know she'd build another nest, as we've had many though the years, but this one has been easy to see into. (While not a stunning photo, I have something to post that's interesting to contemplate regarding hummers...)
