Lots of Birthdays! by Weezilou

Lots of Birthdays!

I sent Ken out on a photo assignment as I can't get up to photograph the latest happenings in the hummingbird nest. (This is her 3rd "litter" in this same nest this year!)

I love that the new arrival is clearly evident and hardly has any beak-of-length on him yet! And there's another, yet-to-be-hatched sibling! When we first looked into the nest awhile back, there was just the one egg, so we don't know how much later she laid the second one.

In order to get the detail needed to see into the shadowed nest, I added an HDR texture and "amazing detail finder" under the sharpening slot in Photo effects. It accomplished just what I was looking for!

I thought you might like to visit the nursery again...
Oh how cute

Ken has really stepped up to the plate. You may have to change your screen name to Ken & Louise! Love the open beak next to the egg. Quite a contrast.

Awesome picture! Pretty cool to be close enough to see the nest never mind inside the nest!

@allie912 He loves getting my praise, and that from folks like you, but I can't let him go and hijack my site... Let's see him start one of his own ;) (It won't happen...)

You're becoming the breeding ground - this guy can't be more than a few hours old!

@voiceprintz @stray_shooter (Team tagging you two...good people!) I hadn't thought to ask Ken to check the nest now for some time, but Ron, like you, he thinks the little one is brand new...even the second egg hasn't hatched (and now we'll have to keep watching!) JT, we're astonished that she's reusing that nest again and again...but for her efforts, I'm glad to see it! It's a win/win as we can easily find it now and enjoy watching her. The other day, when friends brought lunch, I had Ken take them to see, and, asking them to move quietly and slowly, she stayed on her nest the entire time they were watching her. I'd like to think she's come to trust us to treat her well. Surely that's possible...

@darylo @kerristephens @dailypix Ken thanks you for the faves, ladies! He got a wide grin when I told him his photo made it to the Trending Page. Thanks for helping him get this birthday present :)

The egg is a beautiful colour. How lovely that she is reusing the nest and seems to be trusting you. Good on Ken for getting up there to secure the shot!

@pamknowler Thanks, Pam... I do feel as though I improve a little each day...it's slow going, but my friends are making each day very cheerful! Thanks for asking, and I think Ken's tickled he could deliver this for all of us (even me!) to see!

Funny how a bird which will have a long narrow beak starts with one so big and wide.
