A Seasonal Moose Antler... by Weezilou

A Seasonal Moose Antler...

"SOOC" for ONS10

I photographed this set-up recently, but never had time to use it...so I photographed it again today! I love that it has filled with leaves! Morning sun and a brilliant sky, moose antler in Autumn... So NOT Southern California!

FYI (for the curious)...we were walking through a boggy area trying to get a photo of a mother moose & her calf when Ken stepped on this! We drug it to the car and carried it home where it spends every summer propped by this tree... The antler is HUGE!
@orangecrush not so much as resized!

We spent so much time in Montana this past summer and saw quite a few moose. I love your picture with the leaves and all the texture!

@stownsend What a wonderful summer that must have been in such a beautiful state! I'm delighted to see you still here, Suzie! I don't drive out of Mahone Bay that I don't think of your photo of the red boat house you photographed, now no longer there! You set the tone for my realization that many buildings (and boats) like that will disappear...and they do!

I wouldn't like to meet up with that on a good day! And most certainly not if the owner was in a bad mood. What a great find and to have it now adorning the garden.

@salza Far better than to have the pair of them nailed to the top of a garage as we saw up in northern Cape Breton : (((

What a great find and it makes for a beautiful capture!! Lovely colours and textures.

@pyrrhula We DID bring it home, but we lay it in the garden as it looks more natural there we think!
November 10th, 2015
Gorgeous! I wish I had one of these to make my leaves look better... ;)

@hbdaly ...and when Ken said we'd have to rake them up, did you hear me gasp?! (Not on my watch, we won't!)

@Weezilou The old red warehouse is gone? I am sad about it but - it was falling down when I was there in '06!! One day I need to hook you up with our best friends who live in Kentville. They are the kind of people that everyone falls in love with. One day.....

@stownsend That was gone only a year or two later! But like you, I've photographed a few very derelict buildings and am so glad to have the record of them as in all cases, they've been removed. I think they need to be recorded. We go to Kentville at least a couple of times each summer. We'd be delighted to meet up with your friends! Perhaps one day you'll return as well!

I like what Jerry @orangecrush said! Now drive that down to California!!

Goodness, that's a big antler. Really great SOOC shot.

Did you ever get your photos of Mom and the baby?
November 11th, 2015
@digitalrn Not good ones, but yes...and all the while Ken is admonishing me that he's going to have to peel me off the face of an angry moose! OK, knowing what I know now, it was likely a very stupid move, but I have such a good memory of that ten minutes in the bog!

Moose are actually more dangerous than bears (they literally will charge you for no reason at all) where bears tend to run the other way when they encounter humans. We have moose all through cottage country and since I was a kid I have known to keep a large distance away. If a moose charges you they could kill you in a second.

What a great scene! Ok, you win for today!

What a fabulous sight! And what a huge antler! Love the story of you dragging it home with you :)

@bluespirit More clueless newcomers are trampled, knowing as little as I did! I know all that now! I'd NEVER do again what I did then!
