Not sure who was more surprised when Marshmallow arrived on schedule at 9:30! We'd been having dinner with friends when I recall someone said, "There he is!" He didn't race off, but walked the perimeter wall around the yard, finally giving into his basic animal instincts, coming closer to beg for his marshmallow.
It's the brother of our dinner guest who looks after the house when we're away, so he and his wife had heard all about Marshmallow, and can carry back the news that he's being well cared for!
(We're less concerned that he may turn vicious and more concerned that he may turn diabetic!)
Wonderful collage! I am loving the entertainment you put on for your dinner guests! Just look at Marshmallow really making himself at home! I love the one of him taking the marshmallow from you Louise! Fav!
Ooooh hahaha this is fantastic!! I love this Louise, how very fun!! I love that he's taking it right from your hand and his little posture behind Ken well that's just so very cute... what great fun!!
@mikegifford The "brutality" only resulted in hurt feelings... http://365project.org/Weezilou/album-excess/2016-01-08 I will concede that they must differ, but we've been entertaining them in Nova Scotia as well, and fid they've always been a delight...aren't rabid...and they haven't tried to move in, bag and baggage!
I have been following the story of Marshmallow....I would love to have been there when he turned up at your supper gathering. To have anything wild come close to us is a privilege. I'm just happy with my collared dove and blackbird who wait every morning for their breakfast. I don't think one marshmallow a day will make him diabetic!! What is their natural food?
@pamknowler@thresheg@davgil@nickspicsn@mrforja Thank you all for finding the humour and pleasure in these photos and giving this a fave. Most of all, the "Friends of Marshmallow" are happy to see he's loved! @Cherrill Thanks for your note, too, Cherrill! Surely sweets, like marshmallows are not "natural foods" for any living being, but like so many of us, raccoons, too have a sweet tooth! In the wild, they would dig for grubs (which is why some people don't like them coming around their gardens). Ken says they're naturally scavengers, again giving them a bad reputation as they'll tear open a trash bag, and I read that the city of Toronto is trying to have a bin designed that they can't open! They're very clever and resourceful! I contend that, in the city, when they're in one's yard, if fed some cat or dog food, they won't tear up the garden or dig in the trash! (It's proven true!) And for that good behavior, they do seem to love "the pleasurable little fruits from the marshmallow bush" ; )
