After photographing an amazing sunset at the beach over a 50 minute period, I didn't think I'd find anything better the rest of the evening! Wrong! This adorable baby has been frequenting the yard nightly since his parents brought him around even before we were back in California. We'd been hearing all about him. (Get in line if you want to start telling me again about not feeding and encouraging the wild animals! In Lunenburg I did back off this year, but they seem to follow me everywhere!)
I'd just set the food out for Doppleganger ("Doppie" for short) when Baby Face stepped up to the plate (so to speak!) (Ken calls him "Rocky Road" and I call him "Marshmallow"...the name is in limbo for the present..)
I'd be at a loss for photo opportunities if I didn't have a yard full of animals here in the impacted and over-populated region of Orange County, California!
This is something ELSE.... You just seem to attract the wildlife. Course, they probably have a grapevine of "friends" telling them you're an easy plate of food. Incredible.
Forgot to mention---- Both of us loved the video of "Marshmallow"! All we get in our yards are rabbits(when the coyotes haven't depleted the populatojn) and crows. And the rabbits are only in our front yard. We've got the back "rabbit proofed". with fencing to keep dogs in, wildlife out. (John wonders where you got the great music on the video11 We love it.
@aglennc That last comment about the music absolutely delights me! I've gotten tired of Youtube wagging a finger at me for using copyrighted music. This time I found there's a long list of free-to-use music, and I liked this honkey-tonk piece... speeded up parts of the video...kept it from dragging..and the result was pretty fun! So thanks, John, and you, too, Anita! ...and about that "grapevine", yes, ken would say you've broken the code!
Perfect timing with this shot, Louise. How adorable!! Doppie looks a bit vexed, and Rocky Road/Marshmallow has an air of entitlement. I love your backyard wildlife menagerie. ☺
@peggysirk "Vexed"! Yes! That's exactly right! Glad you like the photo...I have about 10 to choose from...they stayed there for quite some time! Actually Ken was in the yard before RR/M came over and went right up to him...then saw me set food out for Doppie. When this happened, I went for the camera!
I just love the look on Doppie's face. You are a real Dr. Doolittle. We have been told to be on the lookout for deadly Brown Snakes at the moment as it hatching time!! Much rather have your furrry friends
@cruiser As I read I thought, OMG , she doesn't think I'd like to have a snake as well! ...I should say I don't really mind snakes for the most part, but I've noticed at the zoo that the world's deadliest snakes all seem to be in Oz! Nowhere near as much fun as your roos and possums!
This is my favourite shot for so long!! The expression on Doppie's face is priceless!! I want to live in your house with you Dr Dolittle!! LOL!! The animals just come running when they hear you are home. Fav Fav Fav!! love it!! Oh and the video was wonderful too!! I have never seen a racoon before even in a zoo so this was very special Louise!!
Wow... what a fabulous shot. My sister had a cat door in a previous house. I stayed over and woke in the middle of he night to a racoon staring at me. I'll never forget that!
Such a fabulous capture! I love hearing that you have wild animals visiting, disregard the nay-sayers! I know it's not quite "right" but how can one resist?!!!
Great capture and the cat's expression is priceless. We have a raccoon in our yard from time to time along with skunks and other critters. The raccoon's no problem but the skunks...
Wow - usually cats and raccoon fight like crazy. Amazing they are civil in this shot! We're having a huge outbreak of rabies among raccoons here. That's my only concern about feeding and encouraging them.
That is so funny! I had a raccoon raiding my hummingbird feeder this summer. When I caught him one night, his raiding days came to a quick end. And unfortunately, so did feeding the hummingbirds.
@jamibann ...not infrequently...I just don't always get the picture! This morning I had two cats and the two Mallards in the same frame! Didn't get the one of the squirrel drinking out of the spa as the ducks sat there!
Yes, you're totally right: I love this one ♥ Expecially the expression of your beautiful cat :D Fav (I followed the link to your video and enjoyed it so much)
Fav!
