Private Party

Steve Keith (in the hat) is a friend of ours and he was one of our dinner guests last night. He'd brought his guitar and we enjoyed music in the living room after dinner, so when he said he'd be at a venue about a half-hour away tonight, we were there! It was a small restaurant with excellent food, but they didn't seem to have advertised that they were having live music on Saturday night! We were there with our neighbour, Christine, and there was a couple at the next table ... that was it! I can't imagine the restaurant broke even. Steve & Jude didn't seem to mind, and certainly the five of us (plus the kitchen staff!) were an appreciative audience! The acoustics were great & there was no background chatter, so I recorded a number of his songs. If you're interested, they'll be on Youtube under "Weezilou" "Steve Keith - Jude Pelley". (Steve began singing professionally on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, so if you're guessing he's a good entertainer, you're right!)
Such a shame there were not crowds for the restaurant as well as the entertainers! Wish we could hear the music!

@maggiemae I suppose the information was hidden in my caption: If you're interested, they'll be on Youtube under "Weezilou" "Steve Keith -Jude Pelley". I posted a number of songs by Steve, but the acoustics last were good, so I recorded a number to songs and have 5 new ones posted today.

What a shame there weren't more of you, but how wonderful to get a private performance from these two gentlemen! Super!

What a great treat this must have been! I will check out your recordings on YouTube. I love guitars and wish I had learnt to play when I was younger. Must have been a wonderful end to your dinner party!

Marvelous shot of the fun and intimate gathering. I'll have to check out the YouTube video...

i thought it was your living room at first, looks like an old bank.

@chard The restaurant is somewhat small, and also speculated it was quite likely an old bank. This was in Hubbards, the town where the 97-y-o hairdresser lives...too bad she wasn't able to drop in for the music. I rather suspect she would have enjoyed it!

Hey Louise! Just logged on the first time in forever. This is a really great environment photo. It feels as if I am present in the room, and it tells the story very well. I struggle with story shots

@adambralston Welcome back, Adam! How good to see you again! You can appreciate that I was struggling with a single hanging bulb for lighting and musicians who were moving! I caught a moment of "stillness", (but there's my friend, Christine's hand moving to the music (which I quite like to have included!) You know I'm mostly a photo journalist of what's happening around me, so this is what was available... Hope you'll stay around and start posting again!

I agree. The single lighting feels like a small performance space. Like a candle on a table at a nice dinner, it creates a close presence? And the movement actually adds to the energy. It feels like a performance with the movement included - completely static shot or brightly lit has it's place, but often it comes across as "staged" instead of live. And Christine was appreciating the music and tapping her hand along with the beat - tells the story.

I received a message from 365 saying that my account would be terminated if I didn't log on sometime soon. Although I haven't been here in probably over a year, it made me sad to think about losing the account. And then when I logged on I saw the opposite of what I had feared. I thought everyone would have moved on by now, and a lot have, but there are still some core 365'ers I used to follow that are still here. And that gladdens my soul. :)

Sure people leave and new ones come in, but some who began with me in 2010 are back to give it another go. As for myself, I'm not so much in need of "a FB experience", but a place to give reason to my love of photography, and a use for it! I'd be adrift without this site...and I do enjoy some meaningful conversation with friends like you...more a "discussion" rather than just the "Like" button!
