When Ashley went to her car, she saw it has been badly messed by a bird. She looked up, and there sat the culprit! Ken called me to come out with the camera, and I got some sweet photos of this young'n!
He was in no hurry to leave, but when he did, Ash and the boys washed her car... it was a good Saturday morning chore and what kids don't like to have charge of the hose?!
I am presently reading H is for Hawk written by Helen Macdonald, a young Englishwoman working out her grief at the death of her father by training a goshawk. It is beautifully written and a most unusual story.
@allie912 I think it's always a delight when a photo resonates with us the way this did with you! That's the best compliment I might receive, so thanks for the double appreciation!
@pcarlaw Thanks Peggy! I did crop this a little to come in closer. His eyes were amazing!
@pamknowler You, Pam, are the mother of a child! Ashley said she read a compilation of comments about motherhood, and the one she mentioned to us was, "Did you stop to consider what it would be like to be awakened at 4:30 and asked what the opposite of "J" looked like?"
@laurieewilson I'll work off of that to see if I can find out more! I never heard of that type, but we're just south of Sta Barbara, and the species here are different than down the coast! Thanks for the assist!
@laurieewilson I just looked at my other photos and yes, he IS B&W on his back! The tail has perfect black with narrower white stripes, and his back is covered with black and white bars/bands, but not as presize as the tail! I love that you were able to help me oput! This is terrific information! THANK YOU!
Is it just me or does the tree really look like a knee in front and arm/hand in back? He's a beautiful hawk. Children washing the car always means a lot more than the car gets soaked. Sweet times!
What fun! To watch this fabulous bird and to watch kids having fun with a hose! Surely, smiles were all around. I know I have one at just the thought. :)
@summerfield haha... We knew exactly where to look for him! @louannwarren There you go with your artistic eye! I love the immensely tall eucalyptus as they do get some wonderful joints! I can easily see what it is you're seeing here!
@pyrrhula I did get right to that project! I needed the presents as soon as possible (we say, "A.S.A.P.!") I was delighted to receive the invitation to join the group at this fabulous zoo, so now, back to my favorite community!

@aglennc We all know how messy babies can be!

...or you can have a dog!
I accidentally parked under a tree at Dad's the other week - birds and cars are not a good mix!
