Stepping away from the current news to return to the jungle in Costa Rica! It was so amazing to hear the Howler Monkeys making their distinctive roaring sounds in the distance! Here we came across a mother and her baby and I wonder if the little fellow might remember us as fondly as we remember him... (OK...probably not!)
@golftragic Thanks, Marnie! Yes, 4 types of monkeys, 2 types of sloth (is "singular sloth" also the plural like moose?) A couple of the people listed over 50 types of birds they photographed, and the crocs and iguanas, poison frogs and several types of snakes! On our first day in town, Ken and I went to an animal sanctuary, and a sign noted that CR has more varieties of animals than all of the US and Canada! In that location, we saw even more animals...all sorts of indigenous cats, tapiers...can't recall it all, but I've no shortage of pictures of "some of everything"...and you know how I do love animals! ♥ : )
My goodness me, I've barely heard of CR, let alone that it was so rich in wildlife. No wonder you went there, mate. Sloth? I too thought the plural was sloth, but the Oxford English Dictionary tells me the plural is sloths. I've learned something new today, always a good thing.
@golftragic Just as you and Les travel to parts of the world that are not on my radar, Costa Rica is very popular with Americans and Canadians. As far back as 1960, the son of family friends decided to move to CR to become a farmer there...and that's the first I'd ever heard of it. Now I have Canadian friends with children who've moved there or they have winter places there. Once evening we were telling a good friend here about out trip and she immediately called her son in Colorado to ask him the name of the place he and his wife have gone several times! It was the same peninsula, and his boss has a vacation home there and lets employees use it...nice! So around here, when you say you'll be there, a lot of people know it well...and we're all envious of those who return! (It was our second trip there!)
@Weezilou That's very interesting information Louise, I can see now why you went there. Living down here at the bottom of the world has some drawbacks, chief amongst them being the distance to anywhere bar NZ or the Pacific islands. It's around 8 hours to Singapore which is considered quite close.
