It was a 22 hour day, getting up before dawn in snowy Halifax, changing planes in New Jersey, and flying to southern California on a diagonal route across country. My favorite views were a clear shot of Chicago and the surrounds, Northern Arizona and the many National Monuments that I'm trying to identify specifically with Google Maps!
But this was a Treat! On approach into Orange County, it must have been crowded air space, so the pilot made a big loop, and knowing so much of the region, it was fun to see it from not-far above! And Then! Disneyland! Certainly a Ubiquitous Landmark in Southern California since it first opened, July 17, 1955! The original park is only the upper half, and the lower part was all parking! In a genius move, California Adventure was opened Feb 1, 2001, and a huge hotel was added on site between the two segments; rooms start at around $400 a night!
Both of our daughters worked there in High School and during their college years, and it's proven to be an excellent accomplishment to have on a job resumé.
Wow what a wonderful clear shot!! No snow in that scene then? LOL!! Sounds like a long day but how lucky to be able to see so much out of the window on your flight. It always seems to be cloudy when I fly!!
What fun! Thanks for posting this. I went with my college roommate (the same one as traveled to Tanzania with this year!) in the summer of 1968 then John and I visited in Jan. of 1970. At that time much of the Park was in maintainance mood for the winter so we missed out on some of the big attractions. I’ll bet they don’t do that any more. Our Disney visits shifted to Florida when our kids came along. Now we are out of the amusement park mode but we did enjoy it when we had the chance.
So glad you're back in California! Hopefully we can get together in Springtime? So dreary and dark up here (Stanislaus county) this time of year. Hope you get rested up and over the jet lag soon. Miss you!
@joysfocus Your phone number sat on my computer keyboard the last week in the burg! Now my body doesn't know what day or time it "really is" and Sat we go to see the West coast kids! I would LOVE to chat with you after Christmas...and yes...get together! Merry Christmas, dear friend ♥
