For an evening when I thought I'd have nothing to post, I seem to be doing all right! Having just posted a drawing I'd done to share with Mike as it related to his photo project, I was compelled to post one more piece that is nearer to the work I most like to do.
I'd scan old photos (so as not to destroy the original) and using a number of techniques, would collage and layer images I'd copied from a great deal of collected Ephemera. This piece is what is referred to as an "Artist's Trading Card". I'd might make a one off and keep it for myself, or create any number of them in very limited quantities as they'd each vary slightly. Then, with a select group, we'd trade and collect these small pieces of art.
Just posting this, I want to get out my materials and make some more! It's such an intuitive process that gives such a lot of pleasure.
Then again, so does the layed photography, and there's nothing to clean up and put away afterward!
@quietpurplehaze Thank you so much Hazel! It's lovely to relate in this fashion! I loved what you wrote on the thread to Author, and I came to know you even better by reading that, so *Thank You*!
I like that very much Louise. we scrapbookers make ATC's as well and I have seen them done by embroiderers and qulters too. I think its the act of creating that is so relaxing
@cruiser Since I haven't gone to art retreats for a long while now, I hadn't considered that others were now doing this, too! I love the variety I've collected. When I began bookbinding, many would select a fixed-number group and pass the books to add art to them (often mailing them around the country). I stopped doing that when I realized not everyone was equally committed to getting them back to the owner!
Louise I am blown away by your talent!! This is beautiful and I have no idea how you did it!! A big hole in my education!! LOL!! My brother was an artist and had work exhibited at the Royal Academy - I have lots of his work hanging in my home. I am afraid the artistic gene missed me out - I cannot even draw a tree and my people are like stick people!! Even went to drawing classes and the teacher used to laugh at my efforts!! I think i found my genre in photography. Fav for this beautiful piece of art!!
I have never heard of this, Louise, but then I am not an artist in any sense of the word. I cook and take pictures - that is the extent of my artistic talent! Haha! But I love when others create and I get to enjoy! This is beautiful!
I wish I had your creativity and talent, Louise! I like this..... Mailed from Kansas, huh??! See you tomorrow morning -- 9:45! Looking forward to it. Weather should stay OK.... Understand no rain is due this weekend.
@emrob Mandy, you said you're an artist, too. Do you have a circle of friends with whom you get together to share what you've been working on? I have a very supportive, albeit small, group of friends here in CA. In Lunenburg, the town is full of every sort of artist...we all certainly compliment one another, but I don't have a group there that I gather with... However, come to think of it, I have had meet-ups with photographers from 365 who live in Nova Scotia or who have come there and visited us!
@stownsend Having a good sense of who you are (after all these years!), Suzie, I well imagine you serve up a meal "artistically & with a nice presentation" and we already know you're an excellent (artistic!) photographer. How boring it might be if we all did everything as well as one another and had nowhere to look to be inspired!
@francoise I DID hear about those machines being used to dispense bits of art! I vaguely recall I may have seen one! I've been to some wonderful art retreats with over 100 artists, and there's always a vendor's night and artist's with work for sale. Very exciting, inspiring and frequently, expensive!
Most recently my daughter, Heather, was visiting up in Lunenburg, and she brought some zip-lock baggies with an art card in it. The artist was a friend of hers, trying to send her work out into the world! The assignment was, over the time of her visit, to tack a baggie to a tree in a public place and wait for a curious-someone to look at it and take it! All that was asked in return was to email a note about finding it, how they felt about that, and anything more they might like to say! What a great project that was! @emrob Mandy, there's something you could also do for fun!
@Weezilou I don't, though I have one online friend with whom I share everything - art, writing, our lives, etc. She's in Australia, so I don't know if I'll ever get to hug her in person, but she's definitely my sister-friend and one of my biggest inspirations and support.
That's really nice, thank you, too!!!
